Floyd "Chip" Poland, 69, of Savannah passed away on Thursday evening, June 20, 2024 at OhioHealth MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.
He was born on June 15, 1955 in Ashland the son of the late Arthur J. Poland and E. Mae (nee Houser) Poland.
Chip graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1973. He went on to further his education and attended Aultman College for his paramedic and firefighter training.
Chip married the love of his life, the former Jane Humbert, on October 2, 1976.
After more than 23 years, Chip retired from the Ashland Fire Department in 2002 where he served as Assistant Chief, Captain, and as a firefighter/medic. In 1976 he joined the Savannah Fire Company where he remained active until 2002, proudly serving as Chief of the Savannah Fire Company from 1990 to 1993.
Chip also served as the mayor of Savannah for 12 years from 1984 to 1996. He was truly born with a servant's heart, always putting the needs of others in front of his own. After reti
